What is PocketDPE?

PocketDPE is an iPhone and iPad app that simulates the oral portion of your FAA checkride. You talk out loud to an AI examiner who asks scenario-based questions mapped to the ACS, follows up the way a real DPE does, and debriefs you when you're done.

Which checkrides does it cover?

Private Pilot, Instrument Rating and Commercial Pilot. Run a full mock oral across every ACS area, or drill a single area when you only have a few minutes.

How realistic is it?

Questions are scenario-based and asked one at a time, with follow-ups when an answer is vague or wrong. Your examiner puts real charts and approach plates in front of you. Mike, the standard examiner, gives no hints and no praise mid-exam, just like most real DPEs, and your results come in the debrief at the end.

Do I have to answer out loud?

That's the point. The real oral is spoken, so PocketDPE is built for answering out loud, in your own words. Your answers are transcribed and graded, and you can interrupt the examiner mid-question.

Does it replace my CFI or ground school?

No. PocketDPE is a self-study practice tool. It is not flight instruction, ground training or an FAA-approved training program, and it doesn't replace your CFI. AI can make mistakes, so always verify with your instructor and official FAA publications (ACS, FAR/AIM, PHAK, AFH).

How much does it cost?

PocketDPE is free to download, and flashcards are free. Practice orals with your AI examiner are part of PocketDPE Pro, which is $129.99 a year (about $2.50 a week) with a 7-day free trial. Monthly ($39.99) and weekly ($19.99) plans are also available.

Prices are in US dollars; subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your Apple ID settings.

Is Cornelius really that rude?

Yes. He uses strong language and has no patience, and the app asks you to confirm before your first session with him. Under the attitude he holds you to exactly the same ACS standards as Emma and Mike. If that's not for you, pick one of them.

What happens to my voice recordings?

Each answer is transcribed, then the audio is deleted from our server. We don't keep recordings. We keep the text of your sessions so your history, debriefs and Readiness Score work, and you can delete your account and all of that data from inside the app at any time.

What devices does PocketDPE work on?

iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 15.1 or later. PocketDPE isn't available on Android.

Wasn't this app called MockDPE?

Yes. PocketDPE was formerly MockDPE, and before that Checkmait. Same app, new name. If you already have it, just update: your account and progress stay the same.
